The necklaces are designed with both space and presence in mind – sculptural objects to be worn on the body and hung over a nail. Line is as significant as shape and fully formed shapes are brought together with incidental pieces.
Each component is made from paper, sourced from both sustainable and recycled materials. Surface treatments are worked with mixed media, including raw pigments, traditional gesso techniques, wax and clay.
For each collection of pieces, I consider how solid or fragile I want them to be, how smooth or rough, what marks or pattern to reveal and the depth of colour. This allows their raw simplicity to prevail, making each one a small discovery.
