quipu 2

This collection is called ‘quipu’ in reference to the ancient Peruvian art of recording information, using knots tied in lengths of string. I consider the necklaces to be a form of communication, reminding us of our being connected: to each other, to the world and to ourselves.

I designed them with both space and presence in mind; sculptural objects to be worn on the body and used as decorative pieces for the home.

Each component is made from paper and the surfaces treated with mixed media, including traditional gesso techniques, raw pigments, wax and bole.

The string can be adjusted with a simple sliding knot, changing the circumference from approx. 60cm to 80cm. The size of the oval shape with the hole in the centre, is approx. 5.5cm long.

These necklaces are lightweight and easy to wear. They are created individually, making each one distinct and unique.
